Ten Steps to Become a Validated Agunah (According to the majority of Beth Dins and Agunah Organizations) 1 . DIVORCE : File for divorce in your local Goyisha Civil Court. Should your husband file for divorce in a Kosher Beth Din, just ignore it, and pretend it doesn’t matter. Do your best to file in New York. Don’t worry, it’s only Mesirah. 2. RABBI : Find a Rabbi who will recommend that you file for divorce in Civil Court and ignore Beth Din. Should you get called for doing anything wrong, this person is now your ‘scapegoat’. Consider donating a few hundred-dollars to him. 3. ALIENATION : Start alienating the child(ren) from your husband. Start scheduling Summer Camp, Scouts, Birthday Parties, Doctors Appointments, After School Events, Religious School, etc. etc. on your husband’s time. Do everything possible to keep the children from your husband. If necessary, bribe and threaten your children not to visit your husband. Don’t follow any court orders for parenting time. They are rarely enforced, especially for women. Don’t worry, it's only Genivah (theft). 4. MONEY: Quickly demand the highest amount of child support and alimony from the court. Have your attorney(s) continually file motions, request interrogatories, depositions, protection orders, child abuse orders, etc. Don’t worry, it’s only Mesirah, Genivah, and Lashon Hara (Evil Speech). Make sure to plead poverty to your attorney so that they will take your case pro bono. 5. COURT: Quit your job as it’s now a full-time job to watch your child(ren) alone, which will cause your child support claim to be even higher. Always appear destitute in court. Wear plain older-style clothing to court. If things don’t go your way in court, start crying and become emotional. Make sure to do the crying routine only if your judge is male. It doesn’t work as well with female judges. 6. BETH DIN: Should the Beth Din contact you, become emotional and distressed. Do your best to explain that a “Rabbi” (see #2 above) gave you permission to file in Civil Court and then go to Beth Din. Do your best to delay. Should the Beth Din create a ruling against you, just ignore it. 7. MOVE: Consider moving many states away (preferably New York). Find a reason like: Family needs you, specialized schooling, job, medical reason, relatives, etc. This puts the children even further from the husband and will cause him to start paying for transportation of the kids, causing him even more poverty. Don’t worry, if your job or schooling fall through, the courts don’t care. 8. POST CIVIL COURT : When the Civil Court litigation is over, ignore the Beth Din from your husband and contact a Feminist Beth Din like: “The Beth Din of America” in New York. They will ignore your husband’s Beth Din and start proceedings against your husband, even to the point of issuing a seruv against him for not coming to their Beth Din. 9. AGUNAH: Start claiming to be an Agunah. Contact the various Agunah organizations like Ora or Agunah and her Get, claiming your husband is refusing to come to the Beth Din and is refusing to give a “Get on Demand”. They will welcome you with open arms and will even help organize protests and rallies against your husband. Don’t worry that shaming another person is forbidden in Judaism and is comparable to murder. Remember and keep saying to yourself, you are doing it for the child(ren). 10. ADVERTISING: Feel free to place advertisements in The Jewish Press , The Forward , and Hamodia requesting “Charity” because of the tremendous hardship it has placed on you and your children. Make sure to contact a few Rabbis to give their endorsement at the bottom of your ad. Negotiate a percentage for each Rabbi. Consider either you or one of your children starting a “GoFundMe” page for extra money. Don’t worry if you live in a million-dollar-plus home, as the people who donate won’t see that. By following the above ten-step program, you are now a Validated Agunah. People will sympathize and help you with money, discounts, babysitting, protests and other things. Most Importantly: Make sure you say every night and twice on Yom Kippur that you only did these things for the child(ren).
